Ask whether the people studied are like you.
What did the studies actually show?
Ask who took part in the study and what changed for them. Ask what treatment their results were compared with. Then ask whether those people had health problems like yours.
The first large study
In Falutz’s study published in 2007, 412 adults were followed for 26 weeks. The paper reported deep belly fat falling 15.2% with tesamorelin and rising 5.0% with the comparison injection.
Deep belly fat means fat around the organs. This result is about that fat, rather than total body weight.
The other large study
Falutz’s study published in 2010 involved 404 adults. At about 6 months, deep belly fat fell 10.9% with tesamorelin and 0.6% with the comparison injection.
Ask
Which result is relevant to the change we want to measure?
What happened after treatment stopped?
After 26 weeks, some participants changed from tesamorelin to the comparison injection. Deep belly fat increased again during the following 26 weeks.
Ask
How would we discuss whether to continue?
Bring that question to the visit and to the cost conversation.
What if an offer claims broader benefits?
As of September 28, 2026, tesamorelin has no approved use for memory improvement or ageing.
Ask
Who was studied for the benefit you are offering me?
Ask for the actual study and an explanation of its limits.
